A pdf book

Filed in SoFoBoMo - March 18, 2008

No, it isn’t mine, and no, it wasn’t produced for SoFoBoMo, but Jonathan Saunders produced the book linked at the top of this post using seven rolls of film and an hour on the street walking around Minor White’s home (how appropriate).

…so i for whatever reason remember this project and decide to make scans all night long that flew in the face of everything i ’should’ be doing. 3 random all night scanning sessions (46 scans) later and only finished mere moments ago, it’s here, ready to share a bit, because this is what makes me feel good.

You have to ignore the bit about there being a thirteen year gap between shooting the film and processing it, because conceptually this is a short online book produced quickly and to a high standard. And it made the photographer feel good.

Interesting post. I’d seen the images before but hadn’t thought about it in a SoFoBoMo context. The book layout is worth some consideration. What initially look like two full page photos are really placed on a single, double width page.

That might seem like a meaningless distinction, but it changes how they are viewed in the default pdf readers, which typically show one ‘page’ at a time.

So a half width title page, then straight into single, double width pages. Gives you more control over the viewers experience. Not just a standard book as a pdf. There’s also good info on creating pdfs for viewing in this set of ‘goodies’ from lenswork

    Gordon,

I thought the layout was really interesting. It probably won’t be suitable for what I’m going to do, but it helps to understand the possibilities.

The distinction you make is far from meaningless.
