From camera to web. Without looking

Filed in Digital camera stuff - May 17, 2008

Can you imagine what it would be like if you could set your camera to transfer all your pictures to your photo gallery automatically, as you are shooting. Just think of the results… There’d be pictures of the ground, the inside of your bag, the goofy out-of-focus ones and all the rest. Good job that I don’t do that.

These SD cards allow you to do precisely that (assuming they work as advertised). Three models: wireless to computer; wireless to photo sharing sites; and finally all that, plus geotagging.

I can see all sorts of business uses for these devices. I’m not thinking professional photography, but professionals who also happen to need photographs – surveyors, estate agents, accident assessors, parking wardens and so on. It would have to be reliable, but it could really be useful. As for real time blogging and photo sharing…I’m not so sure :-)

I’ve actually got a friend who uses his mobile phone for real time blogging – straight from phone to blog as it’s taken. Leads to all sorts or weird stuff, especially if he’s had a few to drink :-)

Megan Hickey, of the band The Last Town Chorus, has been posting a daily photo from her cellphone since August 2007.

I saw her perform in concert last Tuesday and judging by some of the photos she’s posted to her blog at http://thelasttownchorus.wordpress.com/2008/05/ , she has a pretty good eye for photography as well as an ear for music.
