SoFoBoMo languages

Filed in SoFoBoMo - July 28, 2009

The response the request for translation help has been phenomenal. There is a lot of goodwill out in the world and a lot of people want this to work. On behalf of everybody concerned – thank you to all those who have stepped forward to volunteer.

Whilst the update to the SoFoBoMo.org website is being worked on I’m going to use my blog here to co-ordinate the language work. This post will get dragged forward from time to time as it updates.

We have the basic text translated into:

- Spanish
- French
- German
- Swedish
- Arabic
- Serbian
- Swahili
- Portuguese/Brazilian
- Czech
- Cantonese
- Italian
- Japanese
- Norwegian
- Korean
- Russian
- Hebrew
- Mandarin
- Hindi (we have a translation, but badly need somebody who can type from a handwritten Hindi script)

We have people who have volunteered to do the translation into:

- Bengali
- Faroese

At the moment we are particularly looking for translations to Portuguese/Brazilian, Farsi and Korean, but no language would be refused :-)

We are working hard on how best to internationalise the website at the same time as making it a better place with new features and services (wiki, forum, FAQ and so on). Please bear with us if nothing much seems to be happening. There is a lot to do.
